- 2nd Year Project -
This project proposes the design of a student library in St. Andrews. The Library is in essence a reading room for university students, a place conducive to reading and studying together with an attached residence for visiting academics.
The main space of the library is slightly sunken below entrance level to subtly distinguish the study zone from the circulation spaces. These two zones are informally connected with two steps that integrate seating space into the structure.
Narrow windows minimise blinding southern light and sky lights flood the main space with natural lighting. The narrow windows are employed as an architectural language for the library to create sequence and rhythm.
